Daya Trust was very happy to hear from our charity partner, Aarti Naik, about her trip to Delhi to receive her Karmaveer Chakra Award.
Aarti says her recent visit to Delhi was an inspiring moment in her life and recognition of all she has achieved in her life to reach the level of this award.
As well as receiving the Karmaveer Chakra Award, she was also made a REX Karmaveer Global Fellow by the International Confederation of NGOs (iCONGO). This medallion is given for proactive Citizen Action and is in recognition of an individual’s contribution to society and drive to ‘be the change’.
Five years ago in 2008, Aarti started her journey with Ashoka’s Youth Venture, Mumbai. At the time, Aart was a slum-based woman who had dropped out of school and felt she had no hope for her future.
But gradually, after a lot of struggle, Aarti established her Girls Learning Centre which Daya Trust supports and became a changemaker herself for other girls living around her. After 5 years, Aarti says she is so happy to have reached this level in her life where she has so many inspiring things happening.
Here is Aarti at the beginning of her journey in 2008:
